ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE ENGINEER


Description
Alabama Gas Corporations, a subsidiary of Energen Corporation, has an immediate opening for an Environmental Compliance Engineer in our Birmingham Office.

Responsibilities include:

• Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks
   • Ensures that Alagasco division personnel are properly implementing tank compliance procedures pursuant to governmental regulations.
   • Manages all federal Spill Prevention, Countermeasure, and Control (SPCC) requirements for Alagasco statewide
• Establishes and maintains procedures for the characterization and management of hazardous wastes generated by Alagasco.
• Coordinates soil or facility remedial actions pursuant to governmental and industry standards.
• Establishes and maintains procedures for and coordinates environmental due diligence assessments of proposed real property transactions.
• Ensuring that Alagasco employees are trained and equipped to comply with environmental compliance requirements.
• Evaluates proposed Alagasco construction projects to determine environmental assessment needs, environmental permitting requirements, and potential environmental issues.
• Manages all construction stormwater and compliance efforts for Alagasco around the state including Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) construction storm water permitting, Storm Water Management Authority (SWMA) construction storm water permitting, and other municipal storm water permitting programs.

Requirements
The qualified applicant will possess a Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental management, environmental science, or other environmental field.   In addition the qualified applicant will have a work history showing 3 or more years of experience with environmental regulatory compliance.   A working knowledge of natural gas distribution is a plus.  The qualified applicant will also be a competent user of personal computers (specifically Windows software) and possess good verbal communications skills.
